Citing correctly – avoiding plagiarism – the safe way to the scientific text

Citation is an essential part of scientific writing. To prevent plagiarism, it is important to know how to cite correctly. But what do you have to pay attention to when quoting? Which citation styles exist and what exactly is considered plagiarism? What is paraphrasing? In this course you will additionally receive information on what you should consider regarding plagiarism and using AI-based tools.

  • What is the purpose of citations and paraphrases? What are the risks when quoting and how can they be avoided?
  • How are citations and the bibliography connected?
  • When using AI-based tools, what should you pay attention to considering prevention of plagiarism?
  • Which forms of plagiarism exist and how can you avoid them?

Learning objectives

At the end of the course, you

  • will be able to distinguish between the types of plagiarism and know how to avoid them through correct citation and paraphrasing.
  • will be aware that there are different citation styles and subject conventions and know where to find the relevant information.
