E-Pics image management and presentation

E-Pics is the platform for image catalogues of ETH Zurich and is available free of charge to members of ETH Zurich of all units. You can upload, manage and share electronic image data publicly (at E-Pics) or just within ETH Zurich. E-Pics is a service offered by the ETH Library to all members of the ETH Zurich community.

What is E-Pics used for?

E-Pics is used, for example, for images from the natural sciences, from science or technology history, for communications departments that want to manage their extensive collections of images, for personal papers that contain large amounts of photographs, or for institutes that want to store their images in a structured way. With E-Pics, you can manage and share large quantities of images, regardless of the file format or image size. You can change the image information in any catalogue based on your requirements and release images for public use or for specific user groups.

You can integrate images directly into ETH Zurich’s AEM web content management system as galleries or as slide shows via the REST/SOAP interface.

Every image has a direct link as standard. With a digital object identifier (DOI), you ensure that your public images can be cited clearly and over a long period of time, which in turn increases their visibility. For this purpose, the images need to be tagged with the metadata required for DOI registration and must be available long-term on E-Pics.

The software on which E-Pics is based is extremely flexible. For example, you can adjust the metadata fields in your catalogue or establish relationships between individual images. The software can be installed locally or used in a browser, allowing you to manage your images and catalogues anywhere, anytime.

All of the data is backed up twice a day. Authorisation for image and image information management is defined individually in the user roles. Without the corresponding authorisation, users cannot change or delete anything.
