Strategies for scientific writing – courses and advice
Are you writing your Bachelor’s, Master’s or doctoral thesis? It takes a variety of skills to properly formulate your research in writing. The ETH Library provides a range of support services for students and researchers writing scientific texts.
Do you wish to properly formulate your research in writing? In order to write reader-friendly scientific texts, it takes more than just subject knowledge. It is equally important to properly structure your text, to use the correct scientific language, to apply strategies when reading, researching and managing references – and in most instances, it also involves considerable planning.

- Ready for take-off:how to start your Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis”: During the webinar on 16 November 2020, you will find out everything worth knowing about how to get started on your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis (in German).
- “Collaborative writing:all for one and one for all?”: In this Coffee Lecture on 18 November 2020, we will give you tips on how to master the challenges of collaborative writing tasks.
- “Get writing – overcome your writer’s block” During small-group courses or as an individual “Book a Librarian” session, you will receive valuable tips and tricks on getting organised and starting off the writing process.
- Writing advice: As a member of ETH Zurich, you can here receive free and personal advise as well as support in scientific writing – including on individual aspects of a scientific text, time-management during the writing process and the reading of academic texts.
