Ready for take-off – how to start your Bachelor's and Master's thesis

In this course, students learn how to prepare for their Bachelor's and Master's thesis step by step, what skills need to be acquired and what role searching information and literature plays. Thanks to good planning of the thesis, students will keep their bearings throughout the entire process: from conception, search and reading, to research and writing.

Learning objectives

The participants

  • know the most important tasks they have to carry out during the research and writing process: finding a topic, formulating a research question and proposal, deciding on a structure,
  • understand how the research question, structure and proposal have a crucial impact on how the thesis will be written,
  • identify the skills they need to write their thesis and learn them, 
  • work out which services offered by the ETH Library are suitable (literature, courses, advice, etc.).
