Introduction to programming and natural language processing (NLP) for the Humanities

We are pleased to announce a six-day course providing a hands-on introduction to Python programming and textual data analysis. We will hold this course on-site at ETH Zürich (OCT in Oerlikon and ETZ in Zentrum):

Part 1: Introduction to programming in Python
Monday, 19 May and Wednesday, 21 May 2025

Part 2: Working with text data
Monday, 02 June and Wednesday, 04 June 2025

Part 3: Machine learning for text data
Monday, 23 June and Tuesday, 24 June 2025

Gentiana Rashiti (MSc ETH CS) from the ETH Library, Dr Agnieszka Ilnicka, and Dr Tarun Chadha from the Scientific IT Services of ETH Zürich will lead the course.

The registration fee is CHF 600 for the whole course (six days, food and drinks during the breaks are not included).

The development of the course content was supported by the project “Exploring Collections as Data”, funded by externe Seite Swissuniversities as part of the Open Research Data Grants.

The course is aimed at people who do not have prior programming knowledge and plan to process and analyse digitised textual data.
