Writing Studio

The Writing Studio is taking a break. We will be back soon with a new offer.

Do you know that feeling when the deadline is looming for your Bachelor’s, Master’s or doctoral thesis or another scientific text and you can’t seem to get into gear? In the Writing Studio, you will find the time and the space to work on your writing project. Working with other students, you will write in a writing group and give each other feedback if needed. A specialist staff member from the ETH Library will be on hand to assist you.

How

  • Just come along – there’s no need to register!
  • You can come as often and for as long as you like, and get into the habit of writing regularly.
  • Just bring your laptop.
  • And yes, there is a coffee machine!

Languages

German and English

How it works

  1. To start off, a specialist staff member from the ETH Library will inform you about the structure of the session.
  2. You will briefly reflect on the aims of the writing session.
  3. You will then work quietly on your writing task. We work using the Pomodoro technique: 25 minutes of writing, 5 minutes’ break. We repeat this sequence three times.
  4. If you have questions, the specialist staff member will give you tips and assistance.
  5. You can also ask the other students and (voluntarily) give each other feedback. We will give you a tutorial on this.
  6. At the end, you are free to reflect on your progress.

What you won’t receive on this course:

  • Feedback on subject-matter content
  • Feedback on use of language
  • Proofreading
