Experience Mars and Titan interactively
AstroRara shows even more astronomical phenomena
Twelve digital works have so far been available for interactive exploration of celestial phenomena at the ETH Library. Now, two new ones have been added to AstroRara. One is the Mars Volvelle by cosmographer and Hebraist Sebastian Münster. This circular slide rule makes it possible to calculate the position of Mars along the ecliptic for several years of the 16th century.
The second is a kind of flip-book made by AstroRara with images by the Dutch scholar Christian Huygens, who spent months in the 17th century sketching Saturn's neighbourhood. The sequence of points of light recorded in this way enabled Huygens to discover Saturn's moon Titan.
