Networking the Diamond Open Access community in Switzerland

The 1st Diamond Open Access Conference in Switzerland, organised as part of the PLATO project and with the participation of the ETH Library, will take place in March.

Diamond Open Access embodies scholar-led publishing and serves as a vital supplement to the prevalent Open Access models such as Gold and Hybrid, which operate on a "pay-to-publish" basis. Diamond journals are predominantly published by scientific communities with the aim of financing production costs via crowd-funding solutions so that neither authors nor the reading public incur any costs.

A pivotal aspect of advancing this initiative involves fostering connections within the Diamond community, both within Switzerland and internationally. Thus, PLATO is organising the 1st Diamond Open Access Conference with the motto "Acting Together for Sustainable Scholar-Led Publishing". The two keynote speakers Vanessa Proudman (SPARC Europe) and Pierre Mounier (OPERAS) will bring the European perspective on Diamond Open Access to Bern.

Date: Friday, 08 March 2024, 9.30-17.30

Location: PROGR, Centre for Cultural Production, Waisenhausplatz 30, Bern
