Anniversary celebration: 10 years e-rara

Celebration on 20 April 2021 at 6.00 p.m.

After we had to postpone the anniversary celebration for the external pagee-rara platform by one year due to COVID-19, we would like to celebrate the 10th anniversary of e-rara together with you on Tuesday, 20 April 2021. A highlight of the virtual event will be a keynote speech, for which we have been able to win the well-known historian and philosopher Dr Philipp Blom.

The celebration will take place virtually. Participation by invitation only. Registration is required, please email before Monday, 12 April 2021. We look forward to your participation!

Keynote speech: Hic sunt dracones – Maps and the cartography of knowledge

When facing uncertain times, nothing is more important than reliable knowledge. Libraries offer a whole cartography of knowledge but anyone who uses maps soon realises that they only lead to the destinations that the author considered important. How can we get away from the limits of our mental maps at a time when the reality that they should describe is changing dramatically? What are the criteria for contemporary knowledge? What is needed to chart new, better maps of the mind? One answer lies in how early cartographers dealt with uncertainty, unknown territory and white spots on the map – for there be dragons.
