Digital transformation in museums – opportunities and challenges
Denise Tonella, Director of the Swiss National Museum
Digital transformation is permanently changing the way museums work: which use cases are relevant for museums and how can they be implemented in practice? Denise Tonella explores these questions and illustrates how new technologies can help shape the future of museums, particularly in terms of greater transparency, trust, collaboration and participation.
Denise Tonella uses the example of the Swiss National Museum to illustrate the current challenges of digital transformation. The focus will be on the museum's operations, the communication of its content and the changes for its staff.
Denise Tonella has been Director of the Swiss National Museum since April 2021. She studied history and cultural studies at the University of Basel and further trained in film directing and production in Zurich and Munich.
She realised several videos until 2013 and worked as a curator and project manager for numerous exhibitions at the Swiss National Museum between 2014 and 2021, for example on the Renaissance period, the history of the Middle Ages and the women's movement. She regularly teaches at universities and acts as an expert on numerous specialist committees.
