Zotero Institution

The ETH Library has licensed Zotero Institution for the ETH community. This gives members of ETH Zurich unlimited storage space when using the reference management software program external pageZotero.

What is Zotero?

Zotero is a free-​to-use, platform-​independent and cloud-​based reference management software program. It offers a wide range of options for managing references, working with PDFs and creating bibliographies.

What can Zotero do?

  • Platform-​independent: can be used by Windows, macOS or Linux devices and by mobile devices
  • Open-​source software with an external pageactive community
  • Automatic synchronisation (if desired) of the literature collection via the cloud
  • Easy transfer of references from a wide variety of databases, library catalogues, Google Scholar, etc., and automatic import with the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) or the Digital Object Identifier (DOI)
  • Joint work in external pagegroups on literature collections and projects
  • Automatic creation of literature lists/bibliographies via external pageplug-​ins in various text processing programs; wide selection of predefined citation styles
  • Many free external pageplug-​ins that expand and enrich the program, such as automatic renaming of PDFs and a barcode scanner

The Zotero software can be downloaded free of charge from the external pageprovider’s website.

To take advantage of free storage space, please use your ETH email address.
