Rediscover the permanent exhibition of the Thomas Mann Archive with AI guidance

A new AI app turns a visit to the Thomas Mann Archive of the ETH Library into an interactive experience.

As part of a pilot project, the Thomas Mann Archive at the ETH Library is using an AI-supported audio guide for the first time, enabling visitors to engage with the life and work of the writer in a new way.

Use the app directly without downloading

The interactive app, developed by a young ETH start-up, works without any downloads:  Visitors use a QR code to start a voice-guided tour, in which artificial intelligence draws on curated information material to answer individual questions.

The app adapts itself by asking short questions at the beginning and guides visitors through the exhibition in a natural dialogue. A text version is also available for silent use.

Not a replacement, but an enhancement

The AI is not intended to replace the visit to the exhibition, but to provide additional depth: it complements the exhibition with contextual explanations, historical background information and targeted questions, turning the visit into a personal, interactive experience.

The external page ETH start-up Melior was founded in 2023 by three ETH students and specialises in the development of an interactive AI audio guide app that makes museum visits more personal and interactive through personalised voice dialogues.
