In the research landscape, it has become common practice to publish smaller and smaller results in more and more publications. However, this practice, further accelerated by generative AI tools, does not necessarily lead to a higher impact and makes it more difficult to keep track of current research activities. We would like to take up and explore this topic in more detail at the next Learn & Talk, followed by drinks at PBLabs: What role can the ETH Library play in the discourse on the ever-increasing pressure on researchers? How can the library provide support? What options do the various stakeholders at the university have to help shape this development?
Programme for the Learn & Talk on 17 June
Keynote: Prof. Dr. Stefan Wiemer, Head of the Seismology Research Group and Director of the Swiss Seismological Service, ETH Zurich
He will talk about the reasons for, effects of and ways of dealing with the pressure to publish in the natural sciences from his personal perspective.
Moderation: Eva-Christina Edinger and David Johann
Research Café – theme tables:
At the round tables, we will discuss the following topics with other colleagues from various departments of the ETH:
- Journal recommendation systems
- Bibliometrics
- Systematic review
- Peer review
- Unfair publication practices
- Pre-publishing platforms
“Apéro”: Opportunity to exchange ideas and network with external guests from the research community.
What is Learn & Talk?
‘Learn & Talk’ is a networking event hosted by the ETH Library, where colleagues from various ETH units discuss current and strategic topics related to information literacy. The diversity of the participants makes it possible to capitalise on both shared and different perspectives and to develop new solutions across disciplines and organisational units. At the same time, the exchange offers the relevant stakeholders within the university an insight into the expertise of the ETH Library.
