Get yourself and your research project in shape with our research data management workshop programme. You can now register for the Autumn Semester 2024 workshops.

In eight individual online workshops, the ETH-Bibliothek, in collaboration with Scientific IT Services, will address the various elements of research data management (RDM) along the research data life cycle. You are free to decide whether you want to take part in individual workshops or all of them.

Research data management – Basics and how to apply them Wednesday, 25 September 2024, 09.00–12.30 | The first course teaches the basics of research data management and how to apply them. This will constitute the foundation of your own research project. |
Data management planning – how to comply with the requirements of research funders and ETH Zurich Wednesday, 9 October 2024, 09.00–12.30 | The second workshop is about data management planning and how you, as a scientist, can meet the requirements of research funders and ETH Zurich. |
Active research data management Wednesday, 16 October 2024, 09.00–12.00 | The third workshop focuses on active research data management: you will learn best practices and tools for data management during a research project. |
Secure handling of confidential and strictly confidential research data Wednesday, 23 October 2024, 09.00–11.30 | The fourth workshop delves into research involving sensitive data and points out best practices for their secure handling along the entire data life cycle. |
Reproducible scientific computing and data analysis Wednesday, 30 October 2024, 09.00–12.00 | Part five of the workshop series is dedicated to reproducible scientific computing and data analysis. Topics include the advantages and disadvantages of computational notebooks and the management of computing environments. |
Open access and data publishing Wednesday, 6 November 2024, 09.00–12.30 | Part six deals with publishing data and working with open access. Among other things, you will learn about the requirements of research funders regarding open access and open research data as well as Creative Commons licenses. |
Working with images in research Wednesday, 13 November 2024, 09.00–12.30 | Part seven addresses working with images in research, including topics such as image documentation, organisation, and management as well as their (re)use in scientific publications. |
Citizen Science – harnessing the power of citizen-generated data Wednesday, 20 November 2024, 09.00–11.00 | The eighth and final workshop is all about citizen science and its added value for researchers. In addition to the general principles of the citizen science method, it also deals with the various approaches and associated tools. |
The workshops will be held in English via Zoom and will take place on Wednesday mornings between 25 September 2024 and 20 November 2024. They are aimed primarily at doctoral students, postdocs, academic staff of ETH Zurich.
Good to know: We can also organise additional sessions of the workshops for groups of five people or more upon request. You can schedule additional sessions on our website.
