New open access publishing opportunities from 2023 onwards

New open access agreements with the American Chemical Society (ACS), Canadian Science Publishing (CSP), Microbiology Society, Springer Nature, Oxford University Press (OUP) and Portland Press.

As a scientist at ETH Zurich, you can now publish open access articles in journals of the following publishers as of 01 January 2023:

  • American Chemical Society (ACS) 
  • Canadian Science Publishing 
  • Microbiology Society 
  • Springer Nature 
  • Oxford University Press (OUP) 
  • Portland Press 
  • The conditions can be found in the descriptions of the respective publishers. 

American Chemical Society (ACS)

The agreement with ACS allows members of ETH Zurich to publish with open access in the external pageentire portfolio (gold open access and hybrid journals) free of charge. However, the article quota is limited The ETH Library will cover these additional costs as far as the budget allows. As soon as this quota is reached, the article costs will be invoiced to authors, with a heavily discounted publication fee. A news announcement will be made as soon as we have an idea of when this point will occur.

Canadian Science Publishing (CSP)

Members of ETH Zurich may publish with open access without limitation in all Download19 hybrid journals of CSP. (XLSX, 12 KB) They also receive a discount of 15 percent on the publication fees for gold open access journals.

Microbiology Society

Members of ETH Zurich may publish without limitation in all Microbiology Society journals:

Portland Press

Members of ETH Zurich may publish without limitation in all Portland Press journals:

Springer Nature

The agreement with Springer Nature has been extended for another three years. It enables members of ETH Zurich to publish free of charge in the majority of Springer Nature journals. This agreement applies to almost external pageall hybrid Springer Nature journals. The external pageNature Research portfolio is now also covered by the agreement, although only a limited article quota is available for this portfolio. The ETH Library will cover these additional costs as far as the budget allows. As soon as this quota is reached, the article costs will be invoiced to authors. A news announcement will be made as soon as we have an idea of when this point will occur.

A separate agreement allows authors from ETH Zurich to publish in the gold open access journals of the Springer imprints BioMedCentral and SpringerOpen free of charge via the ETH Library.

Oxford University Press (OUP)

Members of ETH Zurich can publish free of charge as corresponding authors in external pageall hybrid OUP journals. They are also granted a discount of 10 percent on all publication fees for gold open access publications. For help with publishing, please refer to the guide on the external pageOUP website.
