2020 annual report of the Thomas Mann Archives

Read about the work accomplished in the Thomas Mann Archives over the past year despite the pandemic, with a review of the main areas of focus.

The cover already draws attention to a highlight of the growing collection: the original drawing “Thomas Mann in Venedig” [Thomas Mann in Venice] by the Swiss artist Hannes Binder. The new acquisition adds a contemporary illustration to the iconographic holdings of work presentations and portraits of Thomas Mann.

All planned projects were pursued successfully despite pandemic-related restrictions: events were converted to virtual formats, preparations for the new special and permanent exhibitions of the Thomas Mann Archives proceeded apace in digital form, and the follow-on project “Thomas Mann Nachlassbibliothek Online” [Thomas Mann’s personal library online] was launched on schedule. It has been available to researchers as an attractive new online research tool since September 2020.
