Georeferencing – Making knowledge come alive in 3D

The new Explora Story is all about geodata and its added value - discover it now!

Do you want to browse old maps with your smartphone? Experience the history of the place you live at from a new perspective? Discover fascinating facts about geographical points along the way? You can do all this and more through georeferencing, with which spatial information is added to digital media.
As you have certainly noticed yourself: In recent years, geoinformation has become more and more accessible. Google Maps, too, has opened the door to web-based maps and geodata to an ever broader public.

What exactly is georeferencing?

The new story explains how georeferencing works and what different methods are used for it. It also provides insights into how data is enriched with geoinformation. It shows how crowdsourcing plays a key role in this process and also illustrates the benefits of geodata for research, since geodata is used in many areas.
