CYBATHLON 2020 – moving people and technology
The CYBATHLON 2020 offers a special kind of competition experience. In its three-part video campaign, the ETH Library shows a person affected who defies fate with courage and high-tech.
A leather toe? A wooden hand? A prosthetic controlled by nerve impulses? Technological advances have naturally resulted in ever more complex systems, up to and including bionic prostheses. In the ETH Library, you will find historic exhibits – including two particularly valuable designs for hand prostheses by Aurel Stodola and external page Pierre Ballif – as well as comprehensive research literature on this topic.
The three-part video campaign (German only) begins with the history of prosthetics and orthotics and focuses on Werner Witschi in all of the videos: Werner Witschi’s life took a tragic turn when he suffered a workplace accident. The qualified electrical engineer has been paralysed since 2013. Yet his life changed again with another unexpected development.
You can already look forward to the other videos, which deal with the current state of research and an outlook into the future. Find out about the ETH Library’s which support research in this area: http://www.library.ethz.ch/cybathlon2020-en
At the CYBATHLON 2020 you can experience the possibilities that intelligent technology offers to people with disabilities. This year, the event will take place as a Global Edition in a new format from 13–14 November.
