The Wiley Digital Archives programme gives you easy, reliable access to unique primary sources.
Large sections of the archive maintained by the external page Royal Geographical Society (RGS), which is based in London and is one the world’s oldest and largest geographical societies, have been digitized and are now available for you to access online. The Wiley Digital Archives programme enables ETH Zurich scientists to research and evaluate correspondence, maps, photographs, expedition reports, fieldnotes, manuscripts and books which the RGS has been collecting since its foundation in 1830. The map collection is particularly impressive; one of the largest in the world, it covers the period from 1485 up to the present day. The oldest piece in the Collections is a woodcarving of the Aegean.
The wide variety of items in the Collections provides the ideal foundation for interdisciplinary research. Subjects include geology, climate change, colonial history and anthropology.
The majority of this digital archive has never been published before; until now, the only way to view the Collections was to visit the RGS in London. This external page video contains background information on the archive.
