So close to the moon – Attracted by Earth’s satellite

The moon in our sights: it is our constant companion, yet for millennia seemed out of reach – until that moment 50 years ago, when the first man set foot on the moon.

This was also a major step for research: thanks to the Apollo mission, but also transported via meteorites, moon rock samples could be analysed at ETH Zurich to shed light on the origins and surface of the moon.

However, the moon was also a source of inspiration for artists – for poems, songs or paintings from the Romantic era or even still to this day in contemporary art.

Find out more about the research and mysteries concerning the moon in the new Explora story.
