The 3D model is calculated from several hundred photos per object.

Aim of the project

This project will produce 3D digital scans of 20 highlights from the Collection of Scientific Instruments and Teaching Aids, and make them available to the public.

Description of the project

The Collection of Scientific Instruments and Teaching Aids has engaged external pageIkonaut to produce 3D digital scans of 20 selected objects from the collection. The first step is to use photogrammetry to capture the objects, before the resulting data are used to calculate 3D models. The finished 3D models will be made available to the public via the collection database, and also via a dedicated website.
3D digitisation is becoming increasingly popular. This particular project is a pilot that will test the production and storage of data, and especially the use and provision of 3D models on suitable platforms. Its findings will feed into follow-up projects and also be shared with other collections.
